Consumer Credit Counseling Service is a non-profit community service agency. Our goal is to help people who are in financial trouble solve their debt problems. Who are we? Established in Springfield in 1969 as a not for profit organization. We are one of over 1400 such services in the U.S. which make up the National Foundation for CreditCounseling (NFCC). We help our clients solve their debt problems by constructive advice and counseling and/or through our Debt Management Program (DMP). Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Springfield/Joplin/West Plains provides a staff of highly trained professionals with one goal in mind; helping you master your money. How can we help you? Budget Counseling If you are experiencing a debt problem or are simply concerned about your financial situation, you may call us for an appointment. You will meet privately with one of our certified counselors who will analyze your current income and living expenses. Together we will work out a budget to fit your needs and goals. Your assets and debt will then be examined and possible solutions to your problems presented. Debt Management Plan If your situation is such that there is not enough money available to make full monthly payments to your creditors but enough to make reasonable payments, you will be offered the option of entering out Debt Management Plan. This program is designed to assist with any type of unsecured debt, including credit cards, medical bills, or accounts at collection agencies. We will contact each creditor on your behalf and make arrangements for them to accept reduced monthly payments. Your creditors are asked to stop all collection activity, waive late and over limit fees, and to deal directly with us. In some cases creditors will stop or reduce finance charges to CCCS clients. Payments to your creditors are handled through the CCCS office. Each month you pay a specified amount, which is deposited into a trust account, and is distributed semi-monthly to each creditor until all of your debts have been paid off. How are we supported? Most of our funding comes from voluntary contributions from creditors who participate in Debt Management Plans. Since creditors have a financial interest in getting paid, most are willing to make a contribution to help fund our agency. These contributions are usually calculated as a percentage of payments you make through your DMP. However, your accounts with your creditors will always be credited 100% of the amount you pay through us, and we will work with all your creditors regardless of whether they contribute to our agency. |
